Statement from PC Agriculture Critic Jeff Bereza on Canada’s Agriculture Day

Today is Canada’s Agriculture Day, where Canadians across the country celebrate the food that sustains us every day and the hard-working people who produce it.

Farmers are at the core of creating healthy communities and a sustainable future, and have our unwavering gratitude for getting food on the table for all Manitobans.

When they should be feeling appreciated, however, farmers here in Manitoba are instead bearing the brunt of the punishing federal carbon tax, which Wab Kinew and his government continue to support.

The NDP-Trudeau carbon tax is inflicted on every level of the supply chain, right down to the dinner table. When you buy a loaf of bread, there is a carbon tax imposed; the glass of milk you have before bed, the carbon tax has been imposed; the hamburgers you made to watch a Jets game with, carbon tax was imposed; and the list goes on.

Agriculture Day reminds us of the urgent need to stand with Canada’s farmers, and let this NDP government know that enough is enough. Wab Kinew needs to stand up for all Manitobans, both urban and rural, like the premiers of Saskatchewan and Alberta have done for their people.

I encourage all Manitobans to join me in thanking farmers today. And I call on this NDP government to put their thanks into action.
