Statement from PC Finance Critic Obby Khan on the NDP’s $24-Billion Omnibus Budget Bill

WINNIPEG — Fort Whyte MLA Obby Khan, PC Critic for Finance, released the following statement on the Manitoba NDP’s vote against bringing their $24-billion omnibus budget bill to public hearings:

“This week, we gave the NDP the chance to bring dozens of new laws and legislative changes in their $24-billion omnibus budget bill to public hearings—but Wab Kinew and every one of his NDP MLAs said no.

“The NDP want to ram through a budget that rakes in hundreds of millions in new taxes, doubles political subsidies for their re-election war chest, forces workers to unionize, and hikes the gas tax and your Hydro bills behind closed doors.

“Manitobans have the right to fair and open public hearings about these important issues. The NDP aren’t listening to Manitobans, and want to force these new laws without any input, whether you like it or not. That’s undemocratic and it’s wrong.

“Wab Kinew is playing the very same political games he’s spoken out against. He should do the right thing: bring Bill 37 to public hearings so Manitobans can exercise their rights and have a say on major changes that will affect their lives.”
