Manitoba PCs Remember Former MP Bob Sopuck
WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Progressive Conservative Caucus is deeply saddened by the passing of former Member of Parliament Robert “Bob” Sopuck, a tireless advocate for rural communities and a valued friend and mentor.
Sopuck, 73, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, at his residence near Sandy Lake. He served as MP for Dauphin–Swan River–Neepawa from 2010 to 2019, representing rural Manitobans with dedication and integrity.
“Bob was a true champion for rural Manitoba and a mentor to many in the Legislature,” said Wayne Ewasko, Leader of the Official Opposition. “Bob was a passionate advocate and spent his years in Ottawa working to ensure the unique needs and values of rural communities were recognized and protected.”
Reflecting on his personal relationship with Sopuck, Riding Mountain MLA Greg Nesbitt said Sopuck always believed it was important to protect and defend the rural way of life, rural culture, and the rural economy.
“Bob was thrilled when Manitoba’s Progressive Conservatives were elected in 2016, and he was a true mentor and trusted advisor for MLAs like myself and my colleague Rick Wowchuk,” said Nesbitt. “When I served as the Minister of Natural Resources and Northern Development, with MLA Wowchuk as my legislative assistant, Bob was always there for us with sound advice and strong opinions on many natural resource issues. Bob’s mentorship left a lasting impact and his friendship will be missed by many.”
Sopuck leaves a lasting legacy of influence and respect among friends, colleagues, and acquaintances across North America.
The Progressive Conservative Caucus extends sincere condolences to Bob’s wife Caroline, his daughter Marsha, and the entire Sopuck family.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Bob’s honour on Saturday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at the Sandy Lake Community Hall.
