Statement from Official Opposition Leader Wayne Ewasko on Election of New AMC Grand Chief
LAC DU BONNET — Wayne Ewasko, Leader of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement today congratulating Grand Chief Kyra Wilson on her election on Wednesday to lead the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs:
“Progressive Conservative MLAs are proud to represent dozens of First Nations communities across rural Manitoba, and we look forward to working with Grand Chief Wilson as she takes on this crucial role. We will continue to advance the valuable progress made together with AMC and the late Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, who has left an important legacy.
“I also want to thank Acting Grand Chief Betsy Kennedy for ensuring that Manitoba First Nations’ voices continued to be heard during the past few months. Having had the honour to meet with the Acting Grand Chief, one interim leader to another, I’m grateful for her steady leadership and effective advocacy.
“Partnership is integral to reconciliation, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with the AMC in order to advance a brighter future shared by First Nations peoples and all Manitobans.”
