Kinew Uses Taxpayers as Piggy Bank for Partisan Pit Stop in BC

WINNIPEG — Official Opposition Leader Wayne Ewasko is demanding Premier Wab Kinew be honest with Manitoba taxpayers today after the NDP premier was caught spending public money on partisan political campaigning in British Columbia.

Evidence tabled in the Legislature on Wednesday, including official expense reports, social media posts, and media articles, clearly show that Kinew billed taxpayers for expenses directly related to his participation in BC NDP election activities in September 2024.

“At a time when Manitobans are worried about rising costs and the growing economic uncertainty caused by U.S. and Chinese tariffs, it’s unacceptable for Premier Kinew to use taxpayer dollars to campaign for his political friends,” said Ewasko.

Expense reports show Kinew billed taxpayers over $1,500 for airfare, hotels, and meals while campaigning for the BC NDP on Sept. 12 and 13, 2024. This total does not include expenses incurred by any political staff who may have accompanied the premier on his trip.

“The public purse isn’t the NDP’s personal piggy bank,” said Ewasko. “Kinew needs to publicly apologize for disrespecting taxpayers and abusing their trust.”
