PC Caucus Congratulates Speaker Tom Lindsey on Appointment, Thanks Outgoing Speaker Myrna Driedger for Her Impeccable Service to Manitobans
Looking forward to working with the speaker on behalf of all Manitobans: Johnson
WINNIPEG — The Manitoba PC Caucus congratulates the Honourable Tom Lindsey on becoming Speaker of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly today, and looks forward to working alongside him for all Manitobans, PC House Leader Derek Johnson said today.
“The Speaker’s role is integral to our democratic system, and it’s not an easy job,” said Johnson. “We have the utmost respect for everyone who has held this role, and we look forward to working alongside them as legislators.”
Hon. Lindsey replaces outgoing Speaker Myrna Driedger, who has served as Speaker since 2016, and as the MLA for Charleswood and Roblin since 1998.
“Myrna was a fantastic Speaker who worked incredibly hard for Manitobans,” said PC Deputy Leader Kelvin Goertzen. “As an MLA, she served her constituents well, and in the House, she upheld long-standing processes and traditions, as well as presided over some truly unprecedented times in the Legislature over the past few years.”
“Myrna served Manitobans well, and I’m proud to call her a friend and colleague,” Goertzen said.
Driedger retired from Manitoba politics following the 2023 provincial general election. Her former seat, Roblin, is now held by PC MLA Kathleen Cook.
The PC Caucus thanks both Myrna Driedger and Hon. Tom Lindsey for their service to Manitobans.
