Indigenous-Led RAAM Clinic Implemented by PCs Now Operational

WINNIPEG — Manitoba opened its first Indigenous-led Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM) clinic this afternoon as result of investments made by our previous PC government in January 2023, Carrie Hiebert, PC Shadow Minister for Housing, Addictions and Homelessness, said today.

Earlier this year, the previous PC government announced an investment of over $890,000 to implement the new Indigenous-led clinic at the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre (AHWC) Inc. in downtown Winnipeg to provide evidence-based treatment services through culturally safe and relevant programming, said Hiebert.

“The near-$900,000 investment allowed our previous government to take concrete action to make recovery from addictions more accessible to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities in Manitoba,” Hiebert added.

PCs are glad to see housing, addictions, and homelessness minister Bernadette Smith acknowledge that “listening to public health experts” was the reason our previous PC government was able to implement this culturally-informed clinic.

Since opening Manitoba’s first RAAM clinic in summer 2018, PCs invested more than $10 million in RAAM clinics while in government to help Manitobans who are struggling with addictions towards recovery. There are now seven such clinics throughout the province, with the new AHWC facility being the third in Winnipeg. The other clinics are located in Brandon, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, and Thompson.
