Lower the Breast Cancer Screening Age in Manitoba

Why this petition matters

Over the past month, Roblin MLA Kathleen Cook has been advocating at the Manitoba Legislature for our province to lower the starting age for breast screening to 40—following the advice of the Canadian Cancer Society, Dense Breasts Canada, Breast Cancer Canada, health experts from across the country, and thousands of breast cancer survivors.

1 in every 8 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. There is now growing evidence that shows women are being diagnosed with more severe cases of breast cancer at younger ages.

Evidence also shows that earlier screening will result in better outcomes and save lives.

Manitoba is the only province in Canada that has not already lowered the age for screening or announced a plan to do so. It’s time for Manitoba to catch up.

SIGN THE PETITION to call on the Manitoba government to immediately put forward a plan to increase breast cancer screening capacity and lower the breast cancer screening age to 40 in Manitoba.
