Statement from PC Education Critic Grant Jackson on NDP Cuts to Critical Bonnycastle School Upgrades
SOURIS — Spruce Woods MLA Grant Jackson, PC Critic for Education and Early Childhood Learning, issued the following statement today on the NDP’s funding cuts to R.H.G. Bonnycastle School and Cairns Children’s Centre’s air conditioning system replacement in southwest Winnipeg:
“First, the NDP cancelled nine new schools that would have created thousands of new classroom and daycare spaces for Manitoba students and families.
“Then they shortchanged provincial education funding for 2024-25, forcing school divisions to do more with less as they struggle to keep up with inflation and increasing enrolment.
“Now, they’ve cut funding for critical upgrades to keep schools and daycares cool and safe during the summer.
“It’s clear that the NDP are not prioritizing education.
“It’s time for Wab Kinew and his education minister to honour the commitments made to Manitoba schools by immediately releasing the funds for the Bonnycastle School HVAC replacement.
“Manitoba students and education workers deserve safe and funded schools.”
