Statement from PC Education Critic Grant Jackson on School Fundraising Bans
WINNIPEG — Spruce Woods MLA Grant Jackson, PC Critic for Education and Early Childhood Learning, issued the following statement today on the Winnipeg School Division’s recent decision to ban parent councils from fundraising for school field trips, textbooks, and other classroom supports:
“Parents have the right to support their children’s education and should be free to fundraise for their schools.
“Fundraising gets families involved in their schools while teaching kids valuable life lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and community.
“Instead of shutting out families and punishing students by taking away opportunities and resources, the Winnipeg School Division should welcome their support and reverse this reprehensible and radical decision.”
