Statement from Official Opposition Leader Wayne Ewasko on January Jobs Report
WINNIPEG — Wayne Ewasko, Leader of the Official Opposition, released the following statement today on Statistic Canada’s latest labour force survey for January 2025:
“Today’s Statistics Canada jobs report confirms that Manitoba’s unemployment rate has surged to 6.1%, up from just 4% one year ago. That means over 15,000 more Manitobans are out of work because of the NDP’s anti-business, high tax agenda.
“While other provinces attract investment and create jobs, Manitoba is falling behind. The NDP’s job-killing policies are shutting out businesses, leaving our province dead last in Canada for economic growth and investment.
“And as the US threatens even more jobs with devastating tariffs on our industries, Premier Wab Kinew and his NDP ministers sit on their hands, with no real plan to defend our economy and protect working families.
“The NDP’s failures have already cost Manitoba thousands of jobs. We can’t afford to lose more. It’s time for real leadership that will put our economy back on track and get Manitobans back to work.”
