PC Caucus Review

Kevin Klein Sworn In as Kirkfield Park MLA

Manitoba’s PC Caucus is excited to welcome another MLA into the fold, with the election of Kevin Klein on December 13, 2022. He was officially sworn in on December 23, 2022.

Kevin had a successful career as a business executive, and is a former Winnipeg city councillor, representing a large portion of the Kirkfield Park area at the time. He was also a mayoral candidate in the 2022 Winnipeg municipal election.

Our Caucus is excited to welcome Kevin to the team, and look forward to supporting him as he represents the great constituency of Kirkfield Park.

This result proves that Manitobans do not want to go back to the dark days of the NDP, and that only our PC Caucus has a plan to achieve the best results for Manitobans.

Thank you & Welcome

Thank You to Our Long-serving Members, and Welcome to Some New Faces

With some long-serving MLAs announcing their intent to not seek re-election, our Manitoba PC Caucus thanks them for their tireless work in their communities throughout their successful careers.

Our PC Team continues to attract talented new faces, and we ran star candidates in each of the three by-elections this year alone – Obby Khan in Fort Whyte, a local business leader and former Blue Bomber; Charlotte Larocque in Thompson, former President of the Thompson Chamber of Commerce; and Kevin Klein in Kirkfield Park, former city councillor and mayoral candidate.

Our PC Team looks forward to welcoming more new, exciting and talented individuals to represent Manitobans across our province as we head towards the next election.

Keeping Hydro Rates Low

Due to our government cutting Hydro’s fees in half, Manitobans can expect a smaller rate hike than previously anticipated. Manitoba Hydro requests annual rate increases, in part to help pay down the $24 billion of debt that the NDP incurred.

Because of our PC policy, their proposed increase went from 3.5% to 2%. This is a sharp contrast from the NDP’s fake freeze “plan” – which would result in a rate shock of over 20% after just a few years.

Manitobans know that the only affordable option is to responsibly keep rates low and reduce Hydro’s NDP debt – and to reject the NDP’s false plan.

Standing Up to Trudeau’s Rifle Ban

As pointed out by PC MLA for Steinbach Kelvin Goertzen, more voices across Canada are joining the call against Justin Trudeau’s ban on many hunting firearms.

We will continue to fight for farmers, hunters and law abiding gun users, while focusing our efforts to target true criminals and the illegal smuggling of guns into our country and province.

Our message to Ottawa is clear: repeal the amendments to Bill C-21.

New Specialized Cancer Care Closer to Home

$6.6M for new program offering care for people with specific cancers

Our PC government is investing $6.6 million to begin a specialized cancer therapy program at CancerCare Manitoba to offer new care options close to home for people with specific cancers that have not responded well to more conventional treatments.

“This is a relatively new area of life-saving cancer therapy and we are pleased to support CancerCare to bring it to Manitoba,” said Audrey Gordon, Minister of Health and MLA for Southdale. “The ability to receive this specialized care close to home, as well as a person’s health-care team and other support systems are incredibly important.

Strengthening how we care for patients right here in Manitoba is a significant priority for our government.”

The chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell cancer therapy program provides personalized immunotherapy for people with blood or lymphatic cancers like lymphoma that do not respond or respond well to conventional treatments. This specialized therapy harnesses the patient’s immune system to find and attack cancer cells.

Once the CAR-T therapy program is established, it will initially be available to two groups of patients:

people aged 25 or younger, including children, with acute leukemia;

and people aged 18 and older with aggressive lymphoma, if other therapies have not worked.
