NIVERVILLE — A state-of-the-art, full-service film and television studio campus in Niverville officially began construction with a sod-turning ceremony on Monday.

“As the fastest-growing community in Manitoba and fifth in all of Canada, Niverville is the ideal place to cultivate as a ‘Hollywood of the north’,” said Springfield-Ritchot MLA Ron Schuler. “This project goes to show the huge role that rural communities have in propelling Manitoba’s burgeoning film industry.”

Developed by Julijette Inc. and Volume Global, Jette Studios will include state-of-the-art production suites, a sound stage, a leading-edge LED wall, and more. Last year, the previous PC government invested over $40 million in infrastructure in and around Niverville to support the project and spur further economic growth in the area.

Likewise, PC initiatives over the years have been instrumental in making Manitoba a prime destination for the entertainment sector. PCs previously introduced and doubled one of North America’s most competitive tax credits for film and video productions, with an additional tax credit for rural productions. In 2022, PC investments enabled direct flights between Winnipeg and Los Angeles, further opening Manitoba up to Hollywood. The Arts, Culture and Sport in Community fund, which was recently cut by the NDP, also helped support film festivals and related programs across the province.

During the 2022/23 fiscal year, Manitoba hosted nearly 90 film productions, of which 35 per cent were shot in rural settings.

“With the vision of Julijette owner Juliette Hagopian, this new development takes our entire region beyond traditional industries and opens the door for even more opportunities and thousands of jobs,” said Schuler. “PCs are proud of our work to support this project and grow our province’s film industry. The world is now increasingly recognizing Manitoba’s creative advantage—and Niverville is ready for its close up.”
